Born Nathaniel Turner, Prep is an independent American artist who began his journey of song creation at the age of 21.  Early life for Prep took root in Memphis, Tennessee where he was raised by his single mother and older brother.  Though surrounded by crime and violence, Prep never took part in what his city was most known for.  Instead, he fell in love with a locally famous form of dance known to Memphis as "Jooking" or "Gangsta Walking."  After graduating highschool, Prep joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan.  Little did he know, he would give up dance for something he believes to be his calling.

     In Okinawa, Japan on January 22nd 2009 at 12:32 am, Prep wrote his first song and titled it "Um Cool."  Later that afternoon, in the local Koza Music Studio, Prep recorded that song and has not stopped since.  When "Um Cool" was written and recorded, Prep went by the alias of 'YungN'.  As YungN, he released several novice mixtapes such as "YungN Restless" and "Beef Wit Beatz".  As YungN began to master his craft and find his sound, he decided it was time to make a change and recreate himself as an overall artist.  Along with the name change from 'YungN' to 'Prep', came the release of a mixtape titled 'Transition'.

     Transition was Prep's way of giving his listeners a new scope of his creative genius.  He gave them a more vivid visual of his thoughts and views on life with songs such as 'Tuition,' 'Have Hope,' 'The Life,' Where I'm From,' and what he considers to be his most personal song on the mixtape 'On The Go.'   As an independent artist, Prep records, mixes, and masters his own songs.  He also directs, shoots, and edits his own music videos as well as other artist's.  Though still finding his way, Prep has a unique sound and is talented beyond his years within many avenues of artistry and creation.  When you ask the question "Who Is Prep?" he will reply, "An artist who is not afraid to be honest, himself, and only wants to give his all toward his craft with no regard for criticism."  It is many of his fan's belief that Prep not only has what it takes to achieve great success, but the ability to connect with any listener who is open-minded enough to listen to something new.
